Meet our Beach Wedding Caterers

We are delighted to introduce  our caterers for Beach Weddings Bournemouth.  Fish Face are based in Poundbury, Dorchester and have recently come on board as our dedicated caterers. We decided to work with Fish Face after being contacted by them and discussing our requirements to work with a catering company who had a “can do” attitude and a lot of experience with working on outside events and all the logistical challenges that beach weddings can present for a caterer.  To Matt and his team our requirements are all possible and well within their capabilities of being fulfilled and the crew at Beach Weddings Bournemouth are very excited to have Matt and Fish Face on board.

Matt Cook began Fish Face events three years ago after working at The Bull at Bridport most recently.  Matt began his life working in kitchens and developing his passion for food from the tender age of 13 at The Old Granary, Wareham.  He has since then worked around the UK and in Australia and one of his career highlights to date has been as Head Chef at Marco Pierre White’s The Talkhouse in Oxfordshire and taking it through the transitions of ownership.  Matt always knew that he would return to Dorset having lived here on and off all of his life and training at Bournemouth & Poole College.

Fish Face have a firm love of working outdoors and will be working in a rustic and simple way by cooking on charcoal and on a fabulous wood burning stove to avoid the need to bring power on to the beach.  This will only enhance the love of the sea and the outdoors which we are trying to bring to Beach Weddings Bournemouth.

Matt Cook, Director of Fish Face Events says:-

“I am really looking forward to working with Melanie and her  Beach Weddings Bournemouth team on this exciting new project.  I have to admit I have not stopped talking about it,  since we began our conversations about working together.  We have been down to the site to discuss the future plans and have been working hard on coming up with some fabulous menus.  Our ideas for Beach Weddings Bournemouth is to keep food simple and rustic and use local produce wherever we can.

Matt Cook – Director of Fish Face Events

We are already hugely supportive of Buy Local and Taste of the West.  We have put together simple but delicious BBQ menus which are proving really popular with 2012 couples for Beach Weddings plus colourful and exciting buffet menus with local meats and fish and two choices of afternoon tea menus with homemade cakes, pastries and bowls of local strawberries served with clotted cream and home made scones with Dorset jam.  Its really proving to be what people want – local food with great service and not been too formal.  This is a very unique venue and we have the menus to match it.   I am thrilled to say that  2012 is going looking to be an amazing year for me and my business. With a new restaurant in Dorchester and being selected as the chosen caterers of  Beach Weddings Bournemouth,  I am very excited, and can’t wait to get started in 2012 season”

Matt's amazing wood burning stove!

We are very excited to be working with Matt and his team.  If you would like more details of the menus on offer please contact us.  All enquiries for Beach Weddings Bournemouth catering should be directed to us in the first instance but Matt and Fish Face can be contacted for information about their services generally at www.fishfaceevents.com

Beach Wedding Entertainment

If you are looking for entertainment for your Beach Wedding, look no further. The team have researched some great ideas for Beach Wedding entertainment including what music would work and even a Beach Wedding fete!

To create the perfect Caribbean feel, why not opt for a steel pan band, the perfect way to re-create the sounds of the Caribbean! The Day O Drums band can play all sorts of musical styles and transform your wedding into a Caribbean paradise right here on Bournemouth Beach!

For something a little more traditional, why not look to a string quartet or harpist? Music for Occasions can provide these and more, including flutes and guitarists.

Another idea could be to have a female vocalist such as Katie Francesca, a fabulous professional singer, whose mellow tones would provide the perfect backdrop to your beach wedding.  Whilst we are a beach venue and we are trying to keep things simple, affordable and in keeping with the beach surroundings and therefore don’t intend to operate with power on site, we can bring in a small generator if needs be for something like Katie for your entertainment during your ceremony and / or wedding breakfast.  Please enquire for further details of this as we can give you information on how we can arrange that and the likely costs.

And for something totally out of the ordinary, why not set up your very own fete on the beach for your guests? The Original Fete Company can provide classics such as ‘Hook the Duck’, ‘Coconut Shy’ and a ‘Personalised Punch and Judy’! This is a unique way to fill the gap between your ceremony and your wedding breakfast and would ensure a fun-filled day for all your guests. The size of the site which you have exclusive use of for your Beach Wedding is big so even with a marquee on site for your wedding guests for the ceremony and the reception you will still have plenty of space outside for your guests (adults and children!) to run around and enjoy themselves so speak to us and we can help you come up with some ideas and put some things together.

Beach Weddings Bournemouth in association with Coastal Creatives

The official launch of Beach Weddings Bournemouth took place on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October 2011 and was a huge success, with members of the press and public flooding down to our site on Bournemouth Beach to get a closer look at exactly what Beach Weddings Bournemouth was all about.

It took all of Thursday and quite a few pairs of hands to get the marquee ready and one of the companies we have to thank for this is Coastal Creatives of Southbourne.

Rachael and Louise from Coastal Creatives worked tirelessly  alongside the Beach Weddings Bournemouth team to get the marquee ready for the official opening and the results spoke for themselves.

The marquee was set up in two sections: the front section was set up with theatre style seating to show how it would look for the ceremony and the back section had four round tables set up as if for a wedding breakfast. Coastal Creatives designed each table with a different theme to give guests an idea of the different ways that a Beach Wedding could be themed.

The first of the four themes was ‘Eco Chic’ and for this theme Coastal Creatives looked to a soft, neutral colour palette. They incorporated vintage fishing nets, rope, sea glass, sculptural pieces of driftwood, some fashioned into homemade favours. The table centre pieces were dressed with coastal grasses to add height and drama in the marquee. Complementing the grasses were the alpine plants such as sea pinks in biodegradable pots. They also had lobster pots and themed bunting all of which are available to hire from Coastal Creatives. This theme is perfect for couples who are passionate about the coast, nature and the environment.

The second theme was ‘Coastal Romantics’ which is for any couple wanting a more elegant feel to their Beach Wedding. It was a gorgeous display using a stylish colour palette of pinks, cream and white. Beautiful shells and starfish adorned this table, which also featured in the stunning glass and stone beach hurricanes and vintage shell vases. The handcrafted wedding favours and bridal bouquet also featured pretty shells and hearts. To add the this dreamy look there was a stunning candelabra, supplied by Arcade Flowers of Ringwood which was draped in matching flowers in soft pinks. Also on display were Coastal Creatives handmade ‘Happily Ever After’ wedding bunting, shell chandeliers, double deckchairs and driftwood ‘Just Married’ signs, all of which are available to hire from Coastal Creatives.

With the Sailing Olympics taking place in Dorset in 2012, this next theme is going to be hugely popular for seafaring couples marrying in 2012. Aptly named ‘Nautical Seafaring,’ this theme was styled using nautical striped fabric with rope accents, vintage anchors and shiny chrome props. The sculptural vintage anchor was the focal point of the table, and it was complemented by the naval hurricane lamps and captains ship bell. There were also giant glass vases filled with pretty hydrangeas supplied by Arcade Flowers, Ringwood.  Also on display as part of this theme were nautical deckchairs with sun canopies, stripy bunting and driftwood ‘Tied the Knot’ signs, all of which are available to hire from Coastal Creatives

Last but by no means least (and a personal favourite of mine!) was ‘The Great British Seaside’ themed table. This theme is perfect for fun-loving couples wanting a coulourful, retro themed wedding. Coastal Creatives used a striped colour palette of pinks, blues and yellows to create this fun, vibrant themed table. As centre pieces they used large glass sweetie shop vases and filled them with old favourites like flying saucers and marshmallows! Arrangements of brightly coloured flowers, provided by Arcade Flowers of Ringwood, were used to complement the table, and striped windmills and sweetie favours helped to finish of this brightly coloured theme perfect for a Beach Wedding on Bournemouth Beach…

The Official Launch of Beach Weddings Bournemouth

What a weekend we have had

Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October saw the official launch of Beach Weddings Bournemouth and someone up there must really like us as we were presented with some stunning British autumn days. The sun was shining down on us as we opened the doors to the public at 10am. With bucks fizz  on arrival, the public arrived en masse and the flow was steady all day on both open days. We were showcasing the full marquee set up for the public and were so excited for people to share the vision we had been working on for several weeks in the lead up to this launch.

The Beach Weddings Crew were on hand all day to talk to brides to be, their fiancees and families about the many exciting options available for a beach wedding on the award winning Bournemouth Beach.

We were lucky enough to have had the marquee dressed beautifully by Coastal Creatives of Southbourne who transformed our marquee with their creative,  innovative styling.

We also had Emma of Arcade Flowers, Ringwood standing by to talk to our brides about their flower requirements. Emma had a fabulous display set up to showcase her talent, and was also responsible for all the flowers throughout the marquee, The Wedding Hut and the stunning Wedding Arch to give couples some ideas for their own future weddings in this unique venue.

We had Emma Jayne and Rob modelling as our bride and groom for the weekend and as they are actually getting married in 6 months, they were the perfect couple to show off the stunning setting of Beach Weddings, Bournemouth! Emma Jayne’s stunning dress was kindly loaned to us from Bliss Bridal, Christchurch.

We also had Kathie and Kathy, two of Bournemouth’s Registrars, with us all day to explain to couples how it all works when you chose to get married in The Wedding Hut on Bournemouth Beach.

The enquiries just kept on coming and we were still there late into the afternoon…and were treated to an extra special sunset as a reward! A perfect example of why you would want to get married on this stunning coastline…

The launch continued on Saturday 29th October, albeit in slightly cooler and more breezy conditions, but luckily the rain held off and our wonderful photographer Ian of Ian H Photography was able to get lots more fantastic pictures.  Ian is a renowned Dorset based wedding photographer whose focus is on capturing the emotions of the big day. He took hundreds of photos over the two days and we can’t wait to see all of them; the photos featured here are just the tip of the iceberg. He certainly captured the stunning surroundings over the weekend and we are sure you will agree.

Our gorgeous bride and groom, Emma Jayne and Rob

We finished up at about 4pm on Saturday afternoon after having taken lots of enquiries for 2012 and 2013 weddings and bookings for our first season.
