Luxme & Mark’s Indian Beach Wedding

At the end of our last season we had a beautiful Indian wedding at Beach Weddings Bournemouth. It was vibrant, fun and a fantastic wedding to be a part of and we wanted to share with you a bit about how their day worked with us.

We were so excited to work with Luxme and Mark. They first got in touch in December 2015 looking for a beach venue to hold their Asian wedding ceremony followed by a reception and we were the perfect venue for them.  Living in London, Luxme and Mark wanted their guests to travel to Bournemouth to spend the day with them.  We worked closely with the couple over the coming months to put together an incredible day’s celebrations for them.  The day started early with a Hindu ceremony on the beach which was the most incredible ceremony we have had the pleasure of hosting here – complete with Indian drums and all the customs of a Hindu ceremony. Even the staff dressed up for the occasion which we really loved to do.

Seeing all the guests, the Groom and then the Bride and her party arrive on to the beach was simply beautiful.  The Bride looked incredible and changed three times throughout the day. The colours of everyones’ outfits and the decorations throughout the marquee was just beautiful – so vibrant!   Their families had worked very hard to bring all the traditions of a Hindu ceremony to our beach venue and it looked amazing! The guests were given a relaxed typical Indian buffet breakfast of soya cutlets, deep fried patties stuffed with spiced cauliflower and almond croissants, tea and coffee and fresh juices throughout the morning ceremony.

After the ceremony our team worked hard to turn the ceremony marquee round very quickly for an Asian lunch for 200 guests.  Our Chefs had been busy in the kitchen prepping all week to produce an Asian buffet lunch of 4 curry dishes; aubergine brinjal, a la thel dala, snake bean curry, vegetable curry, cucumber salad, mango salad and rice accompanied with naan bread and poppadum’s and this was enjoyed in the main marquee and guests being able to sit in the breakout marquee on our outdoor furniture to enjoy their lunch in the sunshine.

Next, the guests enjoyed fun on the beach with games including cricket – even the Bride joined in!  Our ice cream trike was then open for guests to enjoy ice cream on the beach whilst we transformed the main marquee again for a more formal evening dinner.  Before the dinner, the celebrations took on more of an English turn with guests returning to the beach after changing and being greeted by a cocktail hour and canape reception with white sangria, Pimms and elderflower gin cocktails and goats cheese and caramelised onion, smoked salmon and lime aioli and confit of duck canapes.

When guests came in to be seated for dinner they were completely wowed by the way the room looked.  The colours throughout the tables were incredible.  Bright pinks, golds, oranges with Arcade Flowers working their usual amazing magic for our couple.  The dance floor had also arrived ready for the evening entertainment and the bar was open for the evening celebrations. Guests were then truly looked after with our traditional fish and chips menu complete with the trimmings of jars of pickled quail eggs, cornichons and pickled onions on the tables and desserts flowed after the main course too.  Champagne was then served before speeches and cake cutting and dancing late into the night.

picmonkey-collage-lumThis was our first Asian wedding at the beach and the whole team worked really hard to ensure that Luxme and Mark had the most incredible day and we really enjoyed seeing this all come together.  We hope do host many more Asian weddings in the future.

This is what the couple said about their wedding day with us:

“We had the most AMAZING wedding with beach weddings Bournemouth. We had a Hindu ceremony in the morning followed with an Asian lunch, cocktail reception and dinner with a spot of beach cricket. The venue was perfect, and the team throughout the wedding planning process and on the day were extremely attentive and thoughtful. They were always willing to help and provided brilliant ideas. We have had wonderful comments from our friends and family and will fondly remember the day for the rest of our lives. Thank you so much, Luxme and Mark xxx”

The Beach Weddings Bournemouth team all wanted to get in the spirit of it too so we all wore vibrant sari’s. We wish them all the best in their future together, it was such a pleasure to be a part of their wedding !! xx

Umbrella Styles

Now, the first question we always get asked by couples looking into having a beach wedding with us is… ‘But what about the weather? Won’t the day be ruined if it rains?’ Your day will absolutely not be ruined in any way, shape or form! Last summer one couple who got married with us, it rained all day. However, this is what they said about their special day – “It was absolutely amazing from start to finish and the best day – despite the weather we had some beautiful pictures and the girls were all amazing. It just goes to show a bit of wind and rain can’t spoil a Beach Weddings Bournemouth day!”

But if you are still worried, then maybe invest in some wedding umbrellas as a back up. There are some beautiful options available and we think they create some really great photo opportunities, whether its to provide cover from the rain or provide shade from the sun. Umbrellas can be fantastic for parasols too. We do have a few of our own that we keep on the wedding hut but if you would like to buy your own or would like some to match your styling then there are some ideas from you below.

This beautiful shot is one of our couples who had a wonderfully sunny day so used a lace parasol- I think you’ll agree that the addition of the umbrella really makes the photo.

Lace parasol- fabulous for a vintage theme but would suit any theme. Lace parasols are very romantic and look wonderful in photos. You might be busy worrying about the rain but don’t forget the sun does come out during the summer! You might need a parasol to keep the sun off of you if it is sunny as otherwise you may get quite hot in your wedding dress.

When Nadia and Saabe married with us they were expecting a rainy day so brought this lovely umbrella with them – then the sun shone down on them for their gorgeous beach ceremony!

Here are some of our favourites : –

Pretty white with ruffles- we have some very similar to this. White always looks very beautiful and romantic.

Very stylish and vintage with stripes and spots

A beautiful pagoda umbrella which comes in lots of different colours so you’ll be sure to find one that matches your theme! Umbrellas or parasols and be great for a splash of colour in your photos too.

Love this- very romantic but subtle with the heart shaped petals sprinkled across the umbrella

We also have a couple of these umbrellas at Beach Weddings Bournemouth- they really are very beautiful and will suit any style wedding

Beautiful paper parasol with Chinese style detailing- this is a beautiful romantic addition to a wedding

A little bit of fun – One of our brides with her bridesmaids with their heart shaped umbrellas- these come in lots of colours- a red or pink one would look really fun!

We can’t wait to see some fabulous photos with umbrellas used as props this year. x

The start of the 2013 Beach Weddings Bournemouth – second season

This season looked like a very exciting one back when we started in April.  We knew fairly early on that we would be completing around 60 weddings by the end of our second season, so we have had a lot to keep you updated on and its going so fast we have had no time to blog! So, for the summer we thought we would give you a little round up of our weddings going back to the beginning of the season so you don’t miss out on seeing any of our beautiful brides in their beautiful dresses or seeing the gorgeous décor in the marquee.

The very first wedding of the 2013 season was on Saturday 13th April. This was the very intimate wedding of Caroline and Kevin who were joined by just sixteen guests. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very kind to them but they didn’t let this get their spirits down and their guests enjoyed fish and chips and an afternoon of fun with us. Caroline later emailed to say she wouldn’t have changed a thing about the day, not even the weather- which just goes to show you really can have a fabulous wedding day no matter what the weather.

The second wedding of the season threw us straight in at the deep end with a ceremony for two hundred people- our biggest yet! Sonja and Andrew married with us on Friday 19th April and had a ceremony on a lovely sunny day followed by photos on the beach before going back to Andrew’s parents for their reception.

Image courtesy of Simon Allen Photography

Our third wedding was the following day, Saturday 20th April and again threw us in at the deep end with 150 guests for the ceremony and wedding breakfast- the biggest catered wedding we have ever held. Amy and Dean are a lovely, fun loving couple who loved every minute of their day. The weather couldn’t have been better with bright sunshine, which matched Amy’s colour scheme of sunshine yellow and her bright personality. They are a couple very much in love and we could compare her to Tigger from the moment we greeted her at the cliff lift, she was bouncing up and down with excitement all day! As the sun started to set across the bay, Amy and Dean and the wedding party wondered down the prom to Key West for their evening reception.

Danielle and Ben married with us on Thursday 25th April in possibly one of our most intimate ceremonies so far. Danielle and Ben were joined by just their very closest family and a couple of friends. The morning was incredibly foggy but luckily the fog cleared for the afternoon to reveal beautiful blue skies. Ben chose the couple’s music as a surprise for Danielle and hired live acoustic singers to sing during the ceremony and entertain the guests during the drinks and canapé reception on the sand. The couple and their guests walked just down the prom to Westbeach for a meal to continue the celebrations after they left us, allowing them the chance to get some beautiful romantic photos at sunset!

Friday 26th April was the wedding of Kate and Rob- yet another beautiful, fun loving couple (we do love our couples!) Kate looked stunning but wasn’t going to let wearing a wedding dress get in the way of her having lots of fun. During the drinks reception, the games came out including sack races and even tug of war- which the Bride and her girls won I must point out! Go the girls! Kate and Rob were also the first couple to hire our ice cream bike so it was a very exciting day! They enjoyed a relaxed BBQ followed by some hilarious speeches! We absolutely loved Kate’s colour scheme of pale blue and white- it looked beautiful in the marquee with stunning flowers by Arcade flowers and the handmade hessian table runners and bunting really finished the look off. They continued the celebrations with a beachy theme by heading down to Key West at the end of the pier for their evening reception.

The last wedding of the month was Saturday 27th April which was yet another wedding full of surprises! Caroline and Ross were joined by sixty guests for their ceremony and wedding breakfast. Caroline and their guests had a huge surprise when at 3pm a very low flying plane flew across the marquee and Ross revealed he had organised a surprise private air display. The display lasted around ten minutes and had the guests (and the staff!) wowing in amazement at the stunts. Caroline and Ross enjoyed a very special day with us before heading off in a beautiful vintage car for a trip to Sandbanks for some time by themselves (another surprise by the groom) before heading to the Highcliff Marriott for their evening reception.

On Sunday 28th April, we held our Spring open day which was a huge success, with us welcoming over 400 people to the venue to have a look around and see how the venue could work for their wedding. Our ice cream bike was on show on show for the first time and we were joined by some fabulous suppliers who chatted to our couples and visitors. Thank you to Coastal Creatives and Arcade Flowers for styling the venue, Lisa Notley for displaying her amazing cakes, English Oak Vineyard for letting our guests sample some of their Dorset bubbly, Alani string quartet for entertaining our visitors, photographers ianH photography and Fiona Moorey photography for representing our recommended photographers and taking some great images from the day and last but by no means least, our Chef Matt and the Fish Face team for providing canapés and talking to our couples about the menu choices. Our next open day will be Sunday 13th October, so if you didn’t make the spring open day come and see us in the Autumn. If you can’t wait that long, please contact us and we may be able to arrange a private viewing.

Just a few of our early weddings we love sharing with you and lots more to report back from this season as things start to quieten down for the Autumn and Winter.  We can’t wait for the rest of the season! We get to know all of our couples really well so we love seeing all your plans come together on the day and sharing your happiness. We look forward to sharing all of our May and later weddings with you in a few weeks.

Royal Britannia

Kate and Tim were married on Bournemouth Beach on Saturday 27th October 2012. They married at Beach Weddings Bournemouth, the only place in England and Wales where you can have your legal ceremony on the Beach, making it a truly unique venue. For them it was very important to have all their friends and family with them to be part of their wedding day yet dreamed of getting married on a Beach. Therefore Bournemouth was the perfect option. It meant guests had to travel a little way in the car but it meant that they could all be there as their was no flying involved and therefore no expensive plane tickets and their more elderly family could still join them. Better still, no crumpled wedding gown!

Kate and Tim are both police officers so had a busy summer being involved with some of the UK’s most spectacular events such as The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 London Olympics. They had been plagued with patriotism and British fever so with this in mind they chose a Great British theme for their special day. It was the last weekend of October but although it was a little chilly they had a glorious sunny day so the guests could enjoying the sand and the sea.

Kate and Tim and their guests stayed at a Hotel just a short while along the seafront so they decided to hire a Big Red London Bus to transport everyone to Beach Weddings Bournemouth to get the theme off to a Great British start.

The guests loved it as it was so unusual and an old fashioned style bus which was very nostalgic and brought back some memories for lots of the guests!

The ceremony took place in the Wedding Hut, a converted beach hut, and Kate and Tim said their vows under a beautiful driftwood arch. The Wedding Hut was decorated with very romantic and seaside themed décor with a navy and white striped table cloth with anchors, wicker storm vase candles and red, white and blue flowers. The guests were all seated in a magical marquee which was built up against the Wedding Hut and was dressed with bunting and décor all in the Great British Theme.  The sides of the marquee had window walls so there were beautiful sea views, making it all the more romantic and whimsical. The ivory linings of the marquee and the white chairs made the venue look dreamy and unlike any marquee you had ever seen before and the light flooded in on a beautiful October day.

The aisle was lined with zinc buckets of gypsophila and the chairs had wicker heat pew ends tied with red, white and blue ribbons.

The Bridesmaids all had red polka dot dresses on, in keeping with the Great British Theme and Kate made a grand entrance with her Dad to Ellie Goulding’s Your Song when the curtain was pulled back to reveal her in her beautiful gown and amazing Union Jack shoes!

The ceremony was beautiful and very emotional at times

Kate and Tim left the ceremony in a sea of bubbles (as the ceremony is on a beach, paper confetti is not permitted so couples choose real petal confetti or bubbles, so they opted for bubbles and gave bubbles to blow to each person as they left).

After the ceremony it was time for the drinks reception on the golden sands of Bournemouth Beach where the guests were greeted with an old British favourite – Pimms! Buckets and spades were put out for the children and Giant Jenga, Giant noughts and crosses and Hoopla were there to keep children and adults alike entertained! The drinks reception also gave Kate and Tim an opportunity to have their photos taken against the wonderful back drop of the sea and the Dorset coastline with Old Harry Rocks in the background.

Then dinner was served. Being by the seaside and having a Great British Theme, the guests were treated to good old fashioned Fish and Chips served with Kilner jars filled with pickled eggs and gherkins and not forgetting the white bread for those all important chip butties! Dessert was a specially requested Eton Mess to keep in with the theme with coffee served with mini seaside rock.  Continuing the theme, each table was named after a British Olympian including the likes of Jessica Ennis,  Mark Cavendish and Paralympian  Ellie Simmonds.

Kate and Tim and their guests enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the Beach and even managed to go for a quick paddle in the sea! They then went back to the hotel for their evening reception where yet more food and a band awaited them after a walk along the beach. Their day was magical and very unique.

We had a wonderful time being part of Kate and Tim’s wedding! It was a fun day for all. Congratulations to Tim and Kate, we wish them all the best for the future.

2012 – This was our year!

2012 has been hugely exciting for us, marking the first season of Beach Weddings Bournemouth. It has been a tremendous year with lots of beautiful weddings and lots of wonderful couples  and their families. Being the one and only place in England and Wales that you can legally get married on the beach, we have thoroughly enjoyed getting this unique venue off to a fabulous start.  Its been hard work but we have loved every minute of it!

The year got off to a start with Melanie meeting Michael Underwood down on the beach to film the VT for the launch of the Daybreak competition, ‘Here comes the tide’ to win the first ever Beach Weddings Bournemouth wedding. Viewers were invited to enter the competition with the production team then shortlisting it to a final three couples. Viewers then voted for their favourite couple to win the competition.

Melanie with Michael Underwood

Frazer and Kate were announced as the winning couple and on Friday 27th April we had our first ever Beach Weddings Bournemouth wedding! No pressure with all the TV cameras, press and the hundreds of thousands of people watching at home! Our first wedding was a huge success and even the weather stayed clear for us! Congratulations Frazer and Kate.

The Daybreak wedding as it has become known was followed by an open weekend on the Saturday and Sunday to welcome all of our couples that had booked and were looking to book for the summer to come and view the venue as it was only the second time it has all been put together. All I can say is we were over whelmed by their reactions when they walked in with everyone commenting on how beautiful it all looked!

This weekend was also host to our first Baby Naming ceremony. This was a very special day, a fantastic alternative to a christening in a stunning setting. It was extra special as it was a double naming ceremony for Evie and Sebastian. Afterwards guests were treated to a champagne reception and canapes. If you would like more information about Baby naming ceremonies at Beach Weddings Bournemouth then please contact us on 01202 788271.

Each and every wedding has been truly unique and amazing to be a part of so here are some more photos of our couples from our first season. (Please forgive us for some of our amateur photography below- unfortunately we don’t have professional photos of all our couples!)

Clive and Juli were our first couple to have a vow renewal with us on the Beach. It was a little chilly on the day but it still a wonderful day enjoyed by all. Diana Saxby conducted a very personal and emotional ceremony which she had written just for them. If you are interested in having a vow renewal with us at Beach Weddings Bournemouth. Congratulations to all of the couples who got married with us this year- it was an absolute honour to be a part of each and every couple’s wedding. We had such fun at every wedding! Also congratulations to Gemma and James, Sean and Ruth, Michael and Susan,  Martin and Susan and Louise and Richard who also got married with us this year but unfortunately we don’t have any photos of your weddings! Congratulations to Jon and Claire too who renewed their vows with us over the summer. Best wishes to you all for the future- keep in touch!

The icing on the cake for us this season was being shortlisted as a finalist for the Tourism Award at the Dorset Business Awards. The award recognises success and contribution to the tourism industry in Bournemouth. Unfortunately we didn’t win but after only one season we were very proud to get as far as we did and to have our achievements recognised. It was a huge pat on the back for us and we couldn’t be more pleased!

A huge thank you to Ian Hamilton who started the season with us for the wedding of Kate and Frazer and ended it with the wedding of Kate and Tim – such a pleasure to work with you so often this season.

With our first season over, we can’t wait for the second now which starts in April. The first season just flew by and we’re really missing being down on the beach! We’re now busy eagerly planning the Beach Weddings for next season- lots of exciting weddings coming up to share with you all!

Meet the Beach Weddings Bournemouth Crew

We’re a motley crew here at Beach Weddings Bournemouth and well known for always having a smile  on our faces! We all work very hard but we LOVE our jobs! We actually jump out of bed when we know we have a day at the beach ahead of us and seeing a happy Bride and Groom makes it all worthwhile for us. Time to introduce you to everyone who helps to make your wedding day so special

Melanie – The Boss!

You will be in contact with Melanie from the day you first make enquiries with us for a quote or availability check.  Melanie is very “hands on” and likes to see enquiries through from the initial contact right through to the day itself. Its part of our service.  We try to make sure that if you deal with one person at the beginning that we see it through to the end up to and including your wedding day.  Sometimes Natasha or Nicolle will also help out but we are a small and dedicated team here. It  wouldn’t be unusual for you to receive emails from her at 1 ‘o’ clock in the morning as she does keep some unusual hours and its known as a bit of a workaholic!

Melanie will make sure you are well looked after and make it her job to personally get to know you in order to assist you in planning your perfect wedding day, recommending evening venues and suppliers. Melanie will also be there on the day of your wedding looking after each and every guest and making sure your glass is always filled to the top!

Nicolle- Assistant Planner

Affectionately known by the rest of the crew as “The little Munchkin”! Nicolle loves her job and Melanie often gives her odd looks when she arrives half an hour early for work! Nicolle is always smiling and loves each and every wedding but also loves being in the office for cuddles with Mollie and Amba.

Nicolle is also chief blogger for Beach Weddings Bournemouth, so if anyone has any ideas of subjects you would like Nicolle to cover do let her know! Nicolle is also known as the young “Martha Stewart” and is super talented with all things relating to sewing, baking and generally being creative and worked hard on our recent first birthday bash and did a grand job in making our table runners, silk flags and decor for our chic seaside styling.

 Natasha- Assistant Planner

Natasha is experienced in the events world and will be on hand to meet and greet your guests and make sure they are having a wonderful day.  Also our resident mixologist, the bar is Natasha’s department and she is in charge of making the cocktails for your special day (although hates the umbrellas Nicolle and Melanie try to sneak into the cocktails)! You are more than likely to meet Natasha at one of the wedding shows Beach Weddings Bournemouth is exhibiting at ready to chat about ideas for your own wedding.

 Matt- The Head Chef

Matt puts up with a lot of stick with having all these girls around him so he does do well to put up with us!  Matt has an impressive background including Head Chef for Marco Pierre White at his restaurant The Talkhouse in Oxford and Matt has spent time working for local venue owner Andy Price and Branksome Beach as well as working in Australia. As the owner of Fish Face Events his food is amazing and he has a real talent for flavour and using the best of what Dorset has to offer in his food.  Matt is the untidy one in the kitchen and constantly has Paul running around after him!

 Paul- The Second Chef

The chef that hides in the back and doesn’t like to be seen! He is the tidy one in the kitchen and usually happy and smiley, unless Matt makes a mess.

Sean-Special ops

The man at our beck and call and also Melanie’s husband

Should we need anything, Sean is always at the other end of the phone and produces it within minutes! He’s always there to lend a hand and you are more than likely to see him at your wedding meeting and greeting, taking care of security and also helping you to deliver any of your personal gifts and left overs to your evening venue if you are local – all part of the service!

Marcus and Dan – Beach Set up Team

(Unfortunately Dan is a little camera shy it would seem!)

This father and son team work very hard at all hours of the day! They are on site very early usually before the sun rises putting up the ropes to cordon off our area of the beach, construct the driftwood arch for every wedding and put out the coconut matting pathways. Any little jobs that need doing, just ask Marcus and Dan. Marcus is also in charge of packing away all of our gear into the beach hut on the prom, otherwise known as ‘the tardis’! This is no mean feat with the amount of stuff we have – Marcus is regularly heard telling Melanie to stop buying more!

Nigel, Ricky and the Maidman’s team

These guys work very hard for us and are very aware of what perfectionists we are! It takes a team of them a whole working day with a very early start to put up even one of our smaller marquee so they end up working all hours of the night! They battle the wind and the rain sometimes to put up the beautiful marquees to make your wedding what it is.

Seafront team and the Registrars

We are hugely grateful to “Tractor Dave” as we call him and his colleagues plus Lindsey and Kerry who operate the West Cliff lift and all the team at Seafront Services from Bournemouth Borough Council who often work throughout the night all through our season to keep the beach looking wonderful.  You will also see any two of a number of wonderful Registrars who we have the pleasure of working with.  Most often we see Kathy and Kathie who always make the ceremonies truly special and its great working with you all – we couldn’t do it without you!

Dave busy preparing the beach before a wedding

Melanie with Lindsey – one of the Cliff Lift Operators you will see on your wedding day

Kathie and Kathy – Registrars

And last but not least, we couldn’t forget Mollie and Amba- the office mascots!

Two little cuties who absolutely love being at the beach!  You won’t see them on your wedding day but you are quite likely to see them on one of our open days- they do like to make an appearance to say hello to everyone! They keep us company in the office but can sometimes prove to be quite a distraction with their cuteness! Mollie might be the little one but she is most definitely the boss and is forever stealing Amba’s treats!

Melanie witnessing a ceremony early this season for a lovely couple who surprised their family by marrying without them knowing so Melanie was a witness along with Ian Hamilton who captured the ceremony for them. This was the second time that Melanie had acted as a witness so thats a service we can throw in too!

Happy First Birthday – Beach Weddings Bournemouth

October marked a whole year since Beach Weddings Bournemouth was launched! It was also the fourth birthday for the sister companies of Beach Weddings Bournemouth, Bellissimo Weddings and Simply Events. To celebrate we threw a party on the beach and our guests were invited for Afternoon Tea and Bubbly on the Beach!

A huge huge thank you to Ian Hamilton of ianH Photography who was our official photographer for the day! He was on hand to capture all the special moments of the day and has provided us all of the below photos. We can’t thank you enough Ian for your continual support throughout the year. We look forward to working with you for many more years to come!

The planning for the party stared early in the summer and all the guests were sent invitations in the style of seaside postcards

Then we started to design the styling of the day. We quickly decided on a theme of ‘Seaside chic’, incorporating a subtle nautical theme. Nicolle earned herself a reputation as a young Martha Stewart as she spent weeks preparing all of the styling for the event. Pinterest proved to be an invaluable tool to create moodboards with ideas for the styling of the event. We find Pinterest a really useful tool on the Bellissimo Weddings side of the business to help our couples envisage what their day will look like. We used Pinterest to make suggestions for styling and share ideas. Nicolle sewed all the table runners and table cloths after a trip to a fabric store  with Melanie to choose the fabric. She also made flags which lined the coconut matting pathway to welcome guests.

One of our marquees laid out with long tables for a more chic / corporate feel for the day with our Seaside Chic styling by Nicolle

The week running up to the party, we were all getting quite excited about it all coming together just as we had envisaged. On the morning of the party we all arrived at the beach bright and early to start the set up.  We decided to lay the tables out in three long rows rather than using round tables. We have seen lots of photos of this table layout on other blogs so have been dying to try it ourselves!

We’re well known for being perfectionists so we spent hours making sure everything was just right! On the tables we put zinc buckets crammed with busy gypsohila which was expertly arranged by Melanie! Arcade flowers also provided us with two large pedestal arrangements to stand on the decking. We wanted do as much of the styling as we could, as its not very often we get to be this involved but we thought it was a little ambitious for us to tackle the pedestal arrangements so that was best left to the experts! Blue and white star fish were also scattered along the tables to bring in the seaside theme. these had Navy and white striped ribbon bows tied to them with brown luggage tags that had Happy Birthday printed on them.

Arcade flowers also provided us with the white and blue paper lanterns we hung from the ceiling of the marquee to carry the theme throughout.

Melanie Director and Senior Planner with Matt our Head Chef

Once we had finished the styling of the marquee, we then all headed up to The Highcliff Marriott Hotel where Laura and Tara were waiting to pamper us and do our hair and makeup for us to get us in the real party spirit! The Marriott very kindly allowed us to use a room and Laura from Hair by Laura and Tara from Makeup by Tara had very kindly offered to do our makeup which they did a superb job of! They often do our Bride’s hair and makeup and made sure that it was windproof for us as the weather wasnt being terribly kind but it was so nice for us to be pampered so thank you kind ladies for looking after us.

When we got back to the marquee, Ian Hamilton was waiting for us to do a bit of a photo shoot which was also great fun! Even little Mollie, Melanie’s Westie got in on the action!

Mollie sporting her little ribbon to match the colour scheme of the day – very fitting

We expanded the drinks marquee so it was twice the size so we would put comfy sofas and cube seating into it with a coffee table for our guests to relax. We can do this for your wedding too so please enquire with us if you are interested in doing this.

The drinks marquee / breakout space shown as a double size for this event with left hand side as the bar and the right hand side with furniture for a chill out lounge for your guests – looking out to sea

Nicolle also handmade menus for the tables so the guests could see what was on offer for them. The afternoon tea provided by Fish Face was just delicious and was a real hit with all our guests!

Throughout the afternoon, ianH photography was on hand to take photos of all our guests, so here are few fabulous photographs of our guests who came along to help us celebrate

The ladies from Coastal Creatives, Louise and Rachael who style some of our weddings

Jason and Catherine from Dorset Dub Hire who we recommend for camper van hire to arrive at your wedding

Our guests were treated to the amazing Katie Francesca singing all afternoon. She is fabulous and available to sing at your Beach Wedding

Melanie gave a little speech thanking everyone for coming and updating everyone on the hugely successful first season of Beach Weddings Bournemouth. She even gave Nicolle and Natasha little gifts thanking them for all their hard work.

So then Nicolle and Natasha surprised Melanie with a bouquet of flowers with a little help from the lovely Arcade Flowers ladies! Natasha was even brave enough to make a little speech thanking Melanie herself! Well done Natasha.

The fabulous Lisa Notley provided us with a fantastic 1st Birthday Cake. Whilst it looked amazing, being an exact replica of the Wedding Hut, it also tasted amazing! Thank you Lisa – such a wonderful gesture.

Melanie, Natasha and Nicolle cutting the cake- we did feel quite bad about ruining the beautiful wedding hut!

We were very sad when it was all over but we all had an amazing afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came to help us celebrate! And thank you to every one who brought us cards and gifts. We have been over whelmed by all your continued support in our venture and we look forward to working with you all again next year.

Heres to another successful year of Beach Weddings Bournemouth! We can’t wait for April to start our next season of lots more stunning weddings!

Part II ITV’s Daybreak Wedding- The wedding itself

The wedding day arrived and the beach was alive with hustle and bustle very early in the morning.  We are always very lucky with our beach weddings  that the seafront team work hard and start early to get the beach prepared for weddings and today was no exception. The tractors were out early and we were thankful for that to make sure that the beach was well groomed for the imminent arrival of one very special couple.

Kate and her bridesmaids were up early and being pampered by Kate Middleton’s hairdresser Richard Ward no less who created an elegant style for Kate with her hair up and dotted with beautiful wired rose buds.

And our very own Laura Mackenzie who styled the Bridesmaids hair who wanted soft blow dried hair.

The wonderful and super talented photographer Ian Hamilton was appointed as the official photographer for Kate and Frazer and started work early taking bridal preparation shots at The Marriott Hotel whilst Kate was getting ready and being interviewed by Angellica Bell with live streams going out to ITV.  With all this in mind Kate was very much a calm bride and just took the day in which is a real surprise with all that had to be taken into account. Surrounded by TV crew and presenters and lots going on its enough on a “normal” wedding day but Kate had so much more to contend with and dealt with it all incredibly well – such a pleasure to be around.

Down in the marquee Melanie was on hand to greet Frazer and his Groomsmen and we spent the final hour tweaking the marquee and the ties and buttonholes and making sure that everyone was well prepared and calm – Frazer was so calm and chilled that we had to keep checking that it was his wedding day!  No nerves at all it seemed – just enjoying the moment.

Frazer and the Best Man pre-ceremony- and an appearance from the family dog too of course!

Coastal Creatives made this for Kate and Frazer as a gift to mark their beach wedding day
Relaxed and calm were the boys!

The stunning pew end flower buckets were from our recommended Beach Wedding florists Arcade Flowers – trimmed with blue candy striped ribbon to finish the look.

When Kate arrived we had been so lucky all morning that no one had been caught in the rain.  The press decided that they would print pictures the following day stating that we had been showered all day but in fact we were extremely lucky!   Our pretty white umbrellas were used to keep people from peeking pre ceremony and to prevent the wind from getting at that wonderful hair do!

The Bride, Kate and her stylists arriving at the marquee

Kate looked absolutely stunning in an Amanda Wakeley gown and just inside the marquee had some last minute hair and make-up tweaks and was ready to walk down to the aisle to her friend Lucy singing Eva Cassidy’s “take my breath away” which created an emotional and surprisingly private feel to the occasion although the ceremony was being streamed to millions of people across the country!

Frazer’s face when he first saw his bride was an absolute picture.

Now viewers on the morning will have noticed that the programme actually cut short during the official ceremony.  The reason for this (and they say never work with animals and children!!) was that the two adorable children shown below were unfortunately a little late doing their thing walking down the aisle which made the ceremony run a little late and when ITV have to go to an ad break then there is no other choice!  So cute though don’t you think!

The beautiful “three Rachels” bridesmaids looking stunning during the ceremony

On the decking of the Wedding Hut, surrounded by sand, Kate and Frazer said their vows to each other and the moments were extremely heartfelt and tender and it was a true privilege to share those moments. The guests in the marquee were still whilst watching on.

Guests were treated to breakfast canapes

After the ceremony the couple went live to the ITV studios to give their feelings on the day so far and were given a fabulous cruise honeymoon as a complete surprise!

In the marquee after the ceremony, guests were treated to Champagne and yummy canapés prepared by our caterers Fish Face Events.

Guests make their way from our beach venue up the cliff lift to The Marriott Hotel to continue their celebrations

It was such a pleasure to have this as our first official wedding on the beach and Kate and Frazer and their families were a real pleasure to deal with.  Not one to want to take the easy route, having our first wedding live on national TV broadcasting to the nation in not the best weather we could have asked for but it was all amazing experience and we have to say that we were thrilled with the way it all went and looking back on the last few months now that we are well into our first season it was such fun and we really loved every minute – thanks to everyone who made it possible and particular thanks to Ian Hamilton of IanH Photography who did such a superb job in shooting this wedding with very little notice, early starts, long days and having to dodge in and out of TV crews to get the pictures and boy did he get the pictures – finishing with this – one of our favourites – taken as the Bride and Groom made their way into dinner at The Marriott Hotel – simply beautiful.

Part I ITV Daybreak Wedding- The Preparations

The last few months with Beach Weddings Bournemouth has been something of a whirlwind to say the least which is the reason for the lateness in blogging about a really exciting development with our very unique beach wedding and event venue!  Since the end of 2011 we worked closely with ITV to bring a competition to their morning programme, Daybreak, and in February we were visited by a small crew and presenter, Michael Underwood, on the beach when they came to film a VT to launch the competition which they aptly named “Here Comes The Tide”

After hundreds of applications from couples who had a romantic story or a connection to Bournemouth these were selected down to the top 3 and their stories were each shown on the programme in April where the viewers could then vote for their winning couple.

On 19th April 2012 Michael Underwood visited the home of Kate and Frazer live on Daybreak to announce they were the winners of the competition as voted by the public and that they had won the opportunity to be the first couple to marry on a beach in England and their wedding would take place a week later!

So we began with the final week’s preparations for their wedding and with the weather not looking at its best for April we had our work cut out. We have a strong and highly supportive team of suppliers and the way that our marquee based beach venue is organised we build everything for the worst case scenario with weather and if the sun decides to put in a glorious appearance we can easily take off the sides of the marquee to open it up but if there is a shower or windy conditions our marques can withstand it.

Now this amateur image taken on a Blackberry pre the start of the build of the marquee does not look all that fabulous does it!  Well its purposefully included to show you what a transformation was created in some of the worst April conditions we could have imagined so read on!

Midway through the morning of day one of the build the sea is still progressing far too far up the beach for our liking but the sun had decided to make something of an appearance.  The marquee team from Maidmans Marquees were working very hard to get this job completed as were the Bournemouth Council Seafront team – building a little sand wall along side the marquee to help with some of the wind and sea which was coming right for us!

So it was up!  Against all odds the guys had managed to get the marquee up so then internal works could begin on day two for things to start to take shape.  Linings go in next and then the coconut matting carpet overlay on to the hard all weather flooring – great for those ladies heels!

Linings are up, bunting starts to make an appearance and the guys are putting the finishing touches to the carpet.

And then the floristry begins!  Emma and Jenny from Arcade Flowers arrive to start working their magic with all things floral!

Louise and Rachel from Coastal Creatives even managed to find time to squeeze in a coffee!

Our marquee company Maidmans Marquees who kindly supplied the marquee for the winning couple worked incredibly hard to ensure that the structure went up in the strongest winds.  Working against all odds the team (kept happy with copious amounts of coffee, cakes and fish and chips late on Thursday night to keep them working!) pulled off this difficult job and made it look amazing.  The wall of the marquee on the sea side was a complete window wall (as with all weddings) allowing a stunning view of the sea no matter what the weather.  The rear of The Wedding Hut was enclosed last minute due to the unseasonal weather which would have prevented a clear sound signal for transmission of the ceremony live to the nation.  This is something that we can add in to couples wedding plans if the weather does seem to look difficult in the future as well.

These are some images of how things were looking when the TV crews arrived on the beach the day before the wedding to set up their gear – and boy there was a lot of gear!

We cannot thank the team enough who helped put the marquee together and make it look beautiful who were Louise and Rachel from Coastal Creatives and Emma and Jenny from Arcade Flowers – both recommended and valued suppliers of Beach Weddings Bournemouth.  The design scheme for the marquee agreed in advance and created by Coastal Creatives with floral designs and creations from Arcade Flowers and this was The Great British Seaside with an elegant feel and use of pastel shades and soft English flowers.  Louise from Coastal Creatives (with her Mum!) made metres and metres of stunning bunting which adorned the marquee and this was put up on the Thursday.

Arcade Flowers had worked incredibly hard to create the most stunning floral arrangements.  The white wooden chairs had nickel bucket pew ends with stripey blue and ivory ribbons.  The front of the marquee and the top of the cliff lift had large versions of these buckets with large silver windmills and soft moundy flowers at the base to match the rest of the themes. We had two tables dressed in the marquee for those guests who wanted to be seated after the ceremony to enjoy their canapés and champagne.  Coastal Creatives and Arcade Flowers did a great job in delicately yet effectively dressing these tables to match the overall design scheme of the marquee.

Now, the brides bouquet (and matching smaller bouquets for the three Rachels / bridesmaids) what can we say – simply dreamy – well done Arcade Flowers for the most stunning creations known to man and these photos simply dont do them justice!

We had a full rehearsal on the Thursday night with the ITV crew and Kate and Frazer and their family which was a great opportunity for them to see the marquee (albeit not quite finished at that point)  and the way that the day would run.  The bride and groom then enjoyed  the evening with their guests before an early night as the day started very early!

Down on site after the rehearsal took place we worked late into the dark of the night to finish the marquee.  The catering team were arriving to set up the kitchen and deliveries galore were being made.

What an exciting day of preparations this was but extremely hard work for all the team involved but so much excitement was in the air for the following day.

Huge and heartfelt thank yous go to one of our biggest supporters IanH for working so hard on shooting some of these images above in the rehearsal and then went on to cover the wedding itself for Kate and Frazer – but more about that in Part II.

Beach Weddings Bournemouth in association with Coastal Creatives

The official launch of Beach Weddings Bournemouth took place on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October 2011 and was a huge success, with members of the press and public flooding down to our site on Bournemouth Beach to get a closer look at exactly what Beach Weddings Bournemouth was all about.

It took all of Thursday and quite a few pairs of hands to get the marquee ready and one of the companies we have to thank for this is Coastal Creatives of Southbourne.

Rachael and Louise from Coastal Creatives worked tirelessly  alongside the Beach Weddings Bournemouth team to get the marquee ready for the official opening and the results spoke for themselves.

The marquee was set up in two sections: the front section was set up with theatre style seating to show how it would look for the ceremony and the back section had four round tables set up as if for a wedding breakfast. Coastal Creatives designed each table with a different theme to give guests an idea of the different ways that a Beach Wedding could be themed.

The first of the four themes was ‘Eco Chic’ and for this theme Coastal Creatives looked to a soft, neutral colour palette. They incorporated vintage fishing nets, rope, sea glass, sculptural pieces of driftwood, some fashioned into homemade favours. The table centre pieces were dressed with coastal grasses to add height and drama in the marquee. Complementing the grasses were the alpine plants such as sea pinks in biodegradable pots. They also had lobster pots and themed bunting all of which are available to hire from Coastal Creatives. This theme is perfect for couples who are passionate about the coast, nature and the environment.

The second theme was ‘Coastal Romantics’ which is for any couple wanting a more elegant feel to their Beach Wedding. It was a gorgeous display using a stylish colour palette of pinks, cream and white. Beautiful shells and starfish adorned this table, which also featured in the stunning glass and stone beach hurricanes and vintage shell vases. The handcrafted wedding favours and bridal bouquet also featured pretty shells and hearts. To add the this dreamy look there was a stunning candelabra, supplied by Arcade Flowers of Ringwood which was draped in matching flowers in soft pinks. Also on display were Coastal Creatives handmade ‘Happily Ever After’ wedding bunting, shell chandeliers, double deckchairs and driftwood ‘Just Married’ signs, all of which are available to hire from Coastal Creatives.

With the Sailing Olympics taking place in Dorset in 2012, this next theme is going to be hugely popular for seafaring couples marrying in 2012. Aptly named ‘Nautical Seafaring,’ this theme was styled using nautical striped fabric with rope accents, vintage anchors and shiny chrome props. The sculptural vintage anchor was the focal point of the table, and it was complemented by the naval hurricane lamps and captains ship bell. There were also giant glass vases filled with pretty hydrangeas supplied by Arcade Flowers, Ringwood.  Also on display as part of this theme were nautical deckchairs with sun canopies, stripy bunting and driftwood ‘Tied the Knot’ signs, all of which are available to hire from Coastal Creatives

Last but by no means least (and a personal favourite of mine!) was ‘The Great British Seaside’ themed table. This theme is perfect for fun-loving couples wanting a coulourful, retro themed wedding. Coastal Creatives used a striped colour palette of pinks, blues and yellows to create this fun, vibrant themed table. As centre pieces they used large glass sweetie shop vases and filled them with old favourites like flying saucers and marshmallows! Arrangements of brightly coloured flowers, provided by Arcade Flowers of Ringwood, were used to complement the table, and striped windmills and sweetie favours helped to finish of this brightly coloured theme perfect for a Beach Wedding on Bournemouth Beach…
