2012 – This was our year!

2012 has been hugely exciting for us, marking the first season of Beach Weddings Bournemouth. It has been a tremendous year with lots of beautiful weddings and lots of wonderful couples  and their families. Being the one and only place in England and Wales that you can legally get married on the beach, we have thoroughly enjoyed getting this unique venue off to a fabulous start.  Its been hard work but we have loved every minute of it!

The year got off to a start with Melanie meeting Michael Underwood down on the beach to film the VT for the launch of the Daybreak competition, ‘Here comes the tide’ to win the first ever Beach Weddings Bournemouth wedding. Viewers were invited to enter the competition with the production team then shortlisting it to a final three couples. Viewers then voted for their favourite couple to win the competition.

Frazer and Kate were announced as the winning couple and on Friday 27th April we had our first ever Beach Weddings Bournemouth wedding! No pressure with all the TV cameras, press and the hundreds of thousands of people watching at home! Our first wedding was a huge success and even the weather stayed clear for us! Congratulations Frazer and Kate.

The Daybreak wedding as it has become known was followed by an open weekend on the Saturday and Sunday to welcome all of our couples that had booked and were looking to book for the summer to come and view the venue as it was only the second time it has all been put together. All I can say is we were over whelmed by their reactions when they walked in with everyone commenting on how beautiful it all looked!

This weekend was also host to our first Baby Naming ceremony. This was a very special day, a fantastic alternative to a christening in a stunning setting. It was extra special as it was a double naming ceremony for Evie and Sebastian. Afterwards guests were treated to a champagne reception and canapes. If you would like more information about Baby naming ceremonies at Beach Weddings Bournemouth then please contact us on 01202 788271.

Each and every wedding has been truly unique and amazing to be a part of so here are some more photos of our couples from our first season. (Please forgive us for some of our amateur photography below- unfortunately we don’t have professional photos of all our couples!)

Clive and Juli were our first couple to have a vow renewal with us on the Beach. It was a little chilly on the day but it still a wonderful day enjoyed by all. The guests had Champagne afternoon tea following the ceremony and the children all enjoyed a tea party on the decking. Diana Saxby conducted a very personal and emotional ceremony which she had written just for them. If you are interested in having a vow renewal with us at Beach Weddings Bournemouth. Congratulations to all of the couples who got married with us this year- it was an absolute honour to be a part of each and every couple’s wedding. We had such fun at every wedding! Also congratulations to Gemma and James, Sean and Ruth, Michael and Susan,  Martin and Susan and Louise and Richard who also got married with us this year but unfortunately we don’t have any photos of your weddings! Congratulations to Jon and Claire too who renewed their vows with us over the summer. Best wishes to you all for the future- keep in touch!

The icing on the cake for us this season was being shortlisted as a finalist for the Tourism Award at the Dorset Business Awards. The award recognises success and contribution to the tourism industry in Bournemouth. Unfortunately we didn’t win but after only one season we were very proud to get as far as we did and to have our achievements recognised. It was a huge pat on the back for us and we couldn’t be more pleased!

A huge thank you to Ian Hamilton who started the season with us for the wedding of Kate and Frazer and ended it with the wedding of Kate and Tim – such a pleasure to work with you so often this season.

With our first season over, we can’t wait for the second now which starts in April. The first season just flew by and we’re really missing being down on the beach! We’re now busy eagerly planning the Beach Weddings for next season- lots of exciting weddings coming up to share with you all!

Our first Naming Ceremony

On Sunday 29th April, we had the pleasure of holding our first Naming Ceremony at Beach Weddings Bournemouth. Although the weather wasn’t very kind to us, it was still a very memorable and moving day which was enjoyed by all.

Naming ceremonies provide parents who wish to welcome their children into the world and affirm their commitment to them a great alternative to traditional Church Christenings or other religious ceremonies. Naming ceremonies are meaningful to the family and can include as much or as little religious or spiritual content as you like or can be completely non-religious, allowing your children to find their own pathway in life. The content of the ceremony is completely down to you. Guiding adults also express their commitment to the child in the Naming Ceremony. At Beach Weddings Bournemouth, the celebration doesn’t have to end with the ceremony. We can offer canapes, a sit down meal, afternoon tea or even party games!

OK, so the weather wasn’t exactly great for the day it has to be said. It was a very wild, blustery and wet day but all the more atmospheric from the inside with the addition of watching the waves rolling into the shoreline through the clear paneled side of the marquee. The marquee was beautifully decorated with gorgeous bunting and coastal themed props from Coastal Creatives and stunning floral displays from Arcade flowers. The beautiful white chairs were laid out for the guests with the added addition of baby blue blankets for anyone who felt a little chilly (well there were 60mph winds outside)! We were due to do a balloon release to mark the special day however it was too windy so the pink and blue helium filled balloons were tied to the chairs for the children to take home with them. The ceremony hut was gorgeously decorated with coastal themed decor as always, with the lit candles really setting off the atmosphere.

On arrival at the welcome shelter of the cosy marquee, guests were welcomed with tea and coffee and listened to music through our portable Bose sound system chosen by Becks and Dave as they took their seats eagerly awaiting the days special guests.

Not only was the Naming Ceremony special because it was the first one, but also because it was a double naming ceremony! Our lovely couple Becks and Dave have two beautiful children Evie aged 3 and Sebastian who was just a tiny 7 weeks old and wished to have them Named and Welcomed in a joint ceremony.

We offered Becks and Dave the opportunity to be the first family to have a Baby Naming and Welcoming ceremony at the Wedding Hut after the Daybreak Wedding took place after Diana Saxby, a Family Celebrant from Grace The Day introduced them to us. They asked her to conduct a naming ceremony for their children, after she conducted Becks and Dave’s wedding ceremony a few years earlier, making it all the more special for the family. Diana tailored the ceremony to Becks and Dave’s exact wishes with Becks and Dave both dedicating very moving and personal readings and poems to their children which really brought a tear to our eyes as we listened from the back of the marquee. The Grandparents and Guiding adults were then invited to the front to also affirm their commitment to guide, support them and to care for the children.

After the ceremony, guests were treated to champagne and canapes freshly prepared by our caterers Fish Face Events. The mini muffins and flapjack went down a storm! Whilst the adults were occupied with the canapes, the children played in the sand around the wedding hut with buckets and spades, digging holes and building sandcastles.

We had a wonderful day in helping a lovely family confirm their commitment to their children and on another. It truly was a very moving but happy and joyous day.

Shortly after the ceremony, Becks and Dave wrote a lovely comment in our guestbook. Here’s what they thought:

“I just wanted to say thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for everything you’ve done. Everything was just perfect and you gave us a naming ceremony we could only ever dreamed of having!! The setting is just beautiful even in the wind and rain, the decor is elegant and fun, the staff were so attentive and couldn’t do enough for us and all the guests (one lady said to me today that she was the first to arrive and felt so special with everyone looking after her so well).

Melanie organised everything perfectly down to the smallest detail and for someone so organised she is also a genuine, warm and kind person who cares about her clients (in 60 mph winds and rain she and her team were there welcoming our guests, handing out hot drinks and trying to keep everyone cosy).

The marquee and catering were great and all the children enjoyed playing in the sand and with the balloons and we all enjoyed the baskets of sweets and cakes that were handed out as well as the delicious canapes. But more importantly than the canapes and bubbly; you’ve given us the memories of the most special day of celebrating our beautiful babies and that’s something we will remember and treasure forever!!

Becks and Dave x”

We wish Becks, Dave, Evie and Sebastian all the best for the future.
